Reservations Nashville and The Hermitage

Andrew Jackson always welcomed visitors to his home. Since The Hermitage opened as a museum in 1889 over 15 million people have crossed its threshold. Reservations Nashville invites you to become part of that tradition. Plan a romantic or group outing touring the mansion, visiting the gardens and perusing the museum.

The Hermitage is much more than the mansion. Take time to discover Andrew Jackson's life story, stories about his farm and the slaves who worked it, descriptions of the many other sites and buildings on the property, and the efforts to preserve them.

"The history of The Hermitage mirrors American history with stories of Indians, westward expansion, slavery, freedom, the changing roles of women, and the fortunes to be made from industry's insatiable demand for cotton," according to Marsha Mullin, Chief Curator and Director of Museum Services. This exhibit reveals why The Hermitage is the ideal venue for exploring the themes of Jacksonian America. In addition, Frontier Farm to American Landmark takes a closer look at the architectural evolution of the Hermitage mansion, after Jackson's death. Visitors are offered a rare opportunity to view some of the post-1845 furniture no longer exhibited in the mansion.
